Re: MSA 2040 Backup Options

Hello,

There are a couple of options you might consider.

MSA1040 - This is the lower performance array to the MSA2040. It supports replication to the MSA2040. If you bought the replication license you could configure the MSA2040 to replicate data to the MSA1040. This would then support a backup solution where you are not backing up to the MSA2040. Additionally, in case of failure of the main MSA2040 storage system your VMs could access the MSA1040 and you would be back up and running fairly quickly. This solution would also support a VMotion configuration from your hosts if you needed that capability in the future.

Additionally, you could look at the newer generation of MSA2050 arrays. The MSA2040 can also replicate data to an MSA2050 as long as you are using virtual storage on the arrays. The MSA2050 does not support linear vdisks. If you did buy an MSA2050, you could then replicate the data to the MSA2050 and then promote the MSA2050 as your primary storage and use the MSA2040 as your secondary backup device. Most of the physical hard drives are interchangable between the two array. This would allow you to easily swap in hard drives to either array depending on where you wanted your main storage to be.

I suggest reviewing the MSA QuickSpecs to confirm your environment and SAN is fully compatable. http://h41370.www4.hpe.com/quickspecs/overview.html

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Shawn

I had purchased a MSA2012i online.  It has some problems but I am looking to see if anyone would have the firmware J212P01 handy to see if it resolves the issue I am running into.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you. I suppose it could be the problem. In fact I don't know the time that the battery stays on shelf or it's charge level.

You haven't mentioned Operating System installed in the server. So if I assume ESX6.5 then H241 is supported with Gen 8 Server which is Compatible with MSA1050. Please find the SPOCK link to get the details,

https://h20272.www2.hpe.com/SPOCK/Content/ExportPDFView.aspx?Id=95096&typeId=2&lang=en&cc=in&hpappid=117135_SPOCK_PRO_HPE

You can also refer the below forum where it's mentioned that H241 used in Gen 8 server and this is working fine with MSA1050,

https://community.hpe.com/t5/MSA-Storage/DL360pG8-with-P431-and-MSA-1050-SAS/m-p/7015554#M12071

Note: In order to access HPE SPOCK you need HPE Passport login

I have the hp msa 2050, but there is no access to the firmware update due to the absence of the service contract.

Please share direct link to download VL270R001-01 or send firmware to e-mail msa20150@race.ru, Thanks

A contract or warranty is needed, that's the policy.

Hello,

Since you have an MSA2050 you are still under warranty. This means that as long as you link the SN of the chassis to your HPE Support Center profile you will be able to download firmware.  There are two very good advisories that will help guide you through this process. Once you have the SN from the array linked to your HPE Support Center profile you will be able to download the firmware.

Here is the advisory posted for the MSA arrays. There are guided steps to help you find the correct SN for your array. https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c05351364

Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to link the SN from your array to your HPE Support Center profile. There are also instructions on how to create an HPE Support Center profile in case you do not have one currently. https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c04055475

Hopefully this will help get you to our latest firmware!

I do suggest bookmarking the MSA Firmware page. This page has direct links to the latest firmware and release notes. www.hpe.com/storage/MSAFirmware

I have a HP DL380 G8 attached to a HP P2000 G3 10GbE iSCSI MSA Controller.

We want to know if the MSA will support iSCSI connection to a Windows 2012 R2 or 2016 Server?    I am having a hard time getting exact info, as I can not find T250P01-01 in here: https://h20272.www2.hpe.com/SPOCK/

Can someone post the link where I can find this info?

DETAILS:
CPLD Version 22

Storage Controller Code Version T250P01-01

Model P2000 G3 iSCSI

Storage Controller CPU Type Intel Tolapai

Part Number AW595B

Hardware Version 53

Revision G

Manufacturing Date 2013-11-08 17:18:45

Hello,

The TS250 firmware is not a supported firmware version. If you check SPOCK for compatability with the P2000 it does list TS251P001, TS252R007, and TS252P005 for use with Windows 2008. Since the P2000 is an EOL product, the array has not been tested with newer versions of host OS.

This means we (as an HPE employee) cannot state or recommend configurations that have not been tested or verified within HPE.

Cheers,

Shawn

Hello,

Drive model ST2000VX008 is not supported with the MSA P2000 as I do not see this model in the support matrix.

So it is not possible to replace the existing model drive with the ST2000VX008 model.

I am an HPE Emplyee.

Thanks

HP P2000 MSA - controller management

I lost the connection with the controller management via IP. I can log in, but I do not see any data or technical disks, or the logical or physical structure of the regiments. Nothing.

When I want to perform some operation via the web panel, I have the following message:
"Link veryfication failed
The Storage Controller has been shut down. The current operation is not possible"

I have access to disk drives from hosts for now. I can see the data by the hosts.

Why does not the manager download data from disk shelves?

Re: HP P2000 MSA - controller management

This situation can occur when Management Controller not able to communicate with Storage Controller.

When you access SMU or CLI those are showing you data with the help of Management Controller but if this is not fetching any data from Storage Controller due to communication issue that time this may happen.

There will not be any impact on production data as no issue with Storage Controller.

I would suggest you to try to login to one of the Controller serial port and restart both management controllers. That may fix it. If still issue exists then take downtime and stop all application. Then restart both Storage Controllers.

Commands to restart management controllers,

# restart mc both

Commands to restart Storage Controllers,

# restart sc both

Hope this helps!

Re: MSA 2050 direct attach

Hello Alex,

The setup is supported. In case of controller A failure servers have connection from controller B.

Regarding the connectivity you need to check if the host ports on MSA and server iscsi ports IP's are in same subnet.

Command on MSA "show port" would get you information on how the ports are configured.

In case if the host ports on MSA not configured correctly then use the "set host-parameters" CLI command to set iSCSI port options.

Here is MSA 2050 CLI reference guide:
