Issue: unable to add disks to the disk group.

HPE MSA 1040/2040/2042 Best practices
https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/Getdocument.aspx?docname=4AA4-6892ENW

Please check page number 39 and 40. You will see following:

Page number 39
Note Disk Group Expansion is not supported with Virtual Storage. If you have Virtual Storage and are running out of storage space, the procedure to get more storage space would be to add another Disk Group to a pool.

Page number 40:
Note Disk Group Expansion is only available when using Linear Storage. During Disk Group expansion, other disk utilities are disabled. These utilities include Disk Group Scrub and Rebuild

Hope this helps

Hi there,

We're seeing the same type of behaviour. Did you ever find an answer or explanation for this?

thanks

If you have Dual Ported SCSI Disks connected Dual Portet, every Disk have 2 connections to the Controller.

One connection from SCSI Bus 1 and one from SCSI Bus 2, that's the result of redundant Dual Portet Cabling.

So it's OK.

.........I would suggest you to provide the below command outputs that will help to answer you properly,

# show pools

# show volumes

# show disk-groups

Also screenshot of the Pool A from SMU where all space clearly visible........specially free space

Just a quick information for you..........if you see in Pool level "OverCommit" parameter is Enabled this means your volumes are Thing provisioned volume. This is enabled by default.

You can increase volume size by any size for example in your case it is 500GB but for that it will OverCommit the Virtual Pool. If overcommitting the physical capacity of the system is not allowed, the value cannot exceed the amount of free space in the storage pool.

Hope this helps!

That doesn't match the setup I have......I have 4 I/O cards in the MSA1500 and 2 dual bus MSA 30s..Is there a specific cable setup for this?

MSA2312i Vdisk Issue

Hello,  I am trying to find out the best way to remove a phantom VDisk on my MSA2312i.   Somehow, during a disk replacment, the MSA has recreate a VDISK and two volumes that were previously missing from the configuaration.

The Vidks is showing as Quarantined and Offline, and it appears that 12 disks have been associated with it.

I guess I need to remove it to clean up the issue but not sure if I can just remove the Volumes, then the VDISKS?

You can dequarantine the Vdisk. Right click on the Vdisk and Tools > Dequarantine Vdisk. You can do this also on command line.

Then the Vdisk and the volumes can come online. Check the status of the MSA and try to resolve the next error messages.

Hi

I don't want to bring it back on line. It's not meant to be there.  I just need to know if i can remove it safely without effecting the other Vidks.

Harddisk entnehmen, Harddisk Remove from running System

Hallo,

Hello,

If you log into SMU you can identify the disks that belong to a LUN (disk-group). My suggestion is to remove or delete all the disk-groups on the array that now owns the volumes prior to moving the physical disks to another storage device. Check and verify that all data has been removed or backed up and all volumes are unmapped.

In SMU v2 Select the vdisk on the left hand pane Vdisks -> Provisioning -> Delete Volume

In SMU v3 Select Pools -> Select disk-group -> Action -> Remove Disk Groups

Cheers,

Shawn
