We have Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster on MSA2312fc

The shared disks became not visible affter reboot servers. There are disks in Divce Manager, but threre aren't in mapped disk and button  "online" is disabled( see image).

I roll back last windows updates, but it does not help
I used DISKPART SAN -policy=OnlineAll, but it does not help too

Furthermore, I can't expand volume in Stogage Managment Utility.

A button "expand volume" is disabled, although there are free space (see image)

Help please!

HP StorageWorks MSA60 SAS/SATA 418408-B21

I am planning to set up this 579237-B21 - HP ProLiant DL360 G7 that I already have and a HP StorageWorks MSA60 SAS/SATA 418408-B21 that I already have.  I am trying to wrap my head around how this will work.  I want to have linux running on this server when I am done, and I want to have a raid 6 set up ideally with 6 to 8 TB drives in each SATA slot.  I cannot figure out the maximums to decide which drives to purchase to get going.  One spec sheet says the StorageWorks MSA60 SAS/SATA 418408-B21 can only use 1 TB drives in each slot, another site says it can do 2 TB drives so the 12 ports x 2 TB drives make the maximum capacity of the storage bay at 24 TB, another place said someone was using 12 x 3 TB drives.  I can't figure this out, but I'd like to use 6 or 8 TB drives because I want to future ability to be able to expand this to several hundred TBs in ONE RAID6.  Can anyone help clarify this for me? Thanks in advance.

Take Backup of entire Vdisk / HP P2000 G3/ OFFL/trust

Hi,

One of the vdisks (HP P2000 G3) is in OFFL state due to multiple disk LEFTOVER. How to take backup of the entire data after using trust command? The vdisk is part of distibuted filesystem (block level stripped data).

MSA configuration

I have an MSA 1040 connected to one host on Port 1A and 1B connected by FB.  The enclosure has two arrays setup.  One array has one volume that is mapped to all 4 ports.   I would like to create a new volume on the 2nd array and map it to ports 2A and 2B.  Since the fist volume was mapped to all 4 ports but only two are needed what is the best way to reconfigure the MSA?  Do I need to explicity remapped the first volume so that it only mappes to 1A and 1B and then create the new volume and map it to 2A and 2B?  I think when the first volume was set it it should not have been mapped to all four ports but it is.  Can this be undone without any corruption or data loss?

Thank you for any help.

consider this - if a controller has failed, the LUN in question is no longer mapped and presented ... all 4 ports is not that bad.

HP MSA 2024fc vd01 offline

I have a p2000 2024fc. Single Raid 50 array 2 parity groups. I have had 3 disks fail this week The first two were on the first parity group, the third on the second parity group.

I was able to powercycle the array and saw that the vd was FTOL and the last failed disk was now leftover.

My friend, why I wasn't paying attention, decided to clear the metadata on the leftover disk before I had a chance to try the trust command.

Now that drive is showing avail and the vd is back to being offline.

Is there ANY way to recover this volume to at least get the data off of it? It was my vmware datastore for 4 vm's.

Thanks

Chris

MSA2040

I just have one unit of MSA2040.  Ithas two controllers.  It will connect to two Windows 2016 servers similar to the topic in HP MSA 2040 SAN Storage - Connecting Hosts Figure 5.(http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5386548&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c03820022)

Can anyone give me some advise what IP addresses I should assign to MSA network ports?

Controller A - port 1-4: IP address ?

Controller B - port 1-4: IP address ?

Also on Server 1 and Server 2 which each server has 2 ports.

Thank you

*bump*

It's been a while since I posted this but the issues are still there.

You'll have to assign an IP address you machines can connect to, ideally in the same subnet. But this is so basic, if you don't have a clue then you probably shouldn't be installing anything production on it at all.

MSA 2040 Firmware Update | Failed/Stuck?

$

Hi All,

We have a dual controller MSA 2040, which the other weekend I set off to update firmware from early release to current, I think GL105 to now GL220.

Anyway, started this on what I found was Controller B, via the web GUI. It all seemed to progress along well with items displaying onscreen until it said it would reboot or something. I let this happen and then after a while I could again reach the web GUI, which now looked different as it was the v3 version, BUT, could not log in as it had a warning to say it was still initialising.

Logged into controller A web GUI and it showed B as being offline.

So trying to resolve this this week and found that I could still connect into B via SSH, but only do things within Management Controller (MC), sending any commands to the Storage Controller (SC) has it fail.
So, after reading some other things I thought to completely power cycle the unit, so today stopped all I/O and then set the command from Controller A to Shutdown SC on both A and B. Power cycled unit.. AND...

Now I can't reach the Web GUI/CLI on A. I can CLI into B with limited functions. Tried to connect via USB method but windows said it couldn't function with this USB item, using server 2012 driver on win 10 so maybe something a miss there, will connect to server to try.

Otherwise, everything is still working, but I have no visibility, and no firmware updated.

Any hints or thoughts on how to proceed to get back to a functioning controller?
From memory Controller A now has a solid amber light at back, and Controller B is flashing.

I've moved some items off the MSA now and could get the rest off this week if need be to nuke and start again but would rather not if I can.

Cheers

What is the effect of adding additional storage while the cluster is in restriping mode?

I took one of the storage from the cluster to change the battery, but I got an error message that the "This cluster is Over-provisioned and Full.  Writes to thinly provisioned volumes and snapshots in this cluster will fail. Take action now to reduce the space utilization in the cluster. Possible actions include:  delete volumes and snapshots, reduce snapshot retention, add nodes to the storage cluster, use thinly provisioned volumes, move volumes to other clusters, etc."

So is it possible to add additional node(storage) to the cluster while it's restriping?  Does it have an effect since it holds all live servers on it?

P4300 - adjust SAN volume size

Is it possible to shrink a volume that is currently in use but has 150GB of free space in order to increase the size of another volume that is low on free space? Looking at the volume via CMC it seems as though it might allow me to shrink it. Running CMC 12.7 in a vSphere 5.1 cluster

Is MSA 2040 Certified for Windows ODX?

Hello,

I have a MSA 2040 SAN and was wondering if it is certified as compatible for Windows Offloaded Data Transfer?

I use Windows Server 2016 Datacenter on my hosts and all LUNs are formated with NTFS.

I've asked the same question before, no answers:

https://community.hpe.com/t5/Storage-Area-Networks-SAN-Small/MSA2040-FC-ODX-support/m-p/6930399/highlight/false#M10455

As far as I'm concerned it's not supporting ODX in anyway. With ODX enabled I even have lots of weird issues whenever a link fails or a host fails and a failover has to occur. ODX is good on paper but HP's support is abysmal at best.

The MSA DOES support T10 UNMAP space reclaim though when you use virtual disks, that's quite cool (but we dont use it :))

Hi,

First, make sure both the controllers are on the same firmware. #show controllers.

As you have access to controller B CLI issue command # restart mc a.

post the o/p of #show controllers. & # show versions

It's not possible to shrink the volume without deleting it and re-creating it.
