Re: msa 1050 disk group quarentined

Hello,

You mention you have a support case open. Please do continue to work through the Support case since you have a disk-group that is quarantineed and offline. The Support team will be able to access your system and assist with de-quarantining the disk-group if that is the corrective action needed.

Cheers,
Shawn

It looks like a Critical issue and this type of issue you should always first take help from HPE official support.

It's a Virtual Disk Group (VDG) quarantine issue which can be due to several reasons. Mainly due to multiple drive failure issue in the same VDG which results in RAID failure.

So you need to follow the instruction carefully which will be provided by HPE support.

Never execute "trust" command in this situation without taking assistance from HPE support.

Hope this helps!

You can try the below command to disable SSH in MSA,

#set protocols ssh disabled

In order to see the setting,

#show protocols

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I do not want to disable SSH.

I need only disable the SSH server from supporting SSH1 clients (version 1).

By default, the SSH server supports SSH1 clients.

Best regards,

Hello,

There is no such command available on an MSA2300 array. Please remember that this is an End of Support Life system. It went End of Support Life on  January 31, 2018. You should consider contacting an HPE Sales Team to refresh your system to a newer model which has better security protection.

Cheers,
Shawn

Hi Mike.
Can this phenomenon be improved by inserting a loopback connector?
The equipment is MSA2050.

Hi Experts

I have a HP Gen 9 server ( Live server of the client and not the test system ) .. accidently one of the logical group in that server was setup in RAID 6 and we wanted it to be in RAID 5. Please suggest a way to migrate from RAID 6 to RAID 5 without losing a single data. Server is having P440 Array Controller.

Prompt response will be highly appreciated.

thanks.

MSA 2040 SAS Controller to another unit as a replacement

Afternoon Folks,

Im looking at two separate MSA 2040 SAS based dual controller systems(12G SAS) (one is in production and the other is decomissioned)

We have seen a controller fail on the production unit and would like to use one of the identical controllers from the decomissioned unit to replace it. Could anyone point me to the procedure for doing this, for example would we need to clear down the controller from the decomissioned unit before inserting it into the production SAN as a replacement.

Realise there is a procedure here for replacement using a new part, but this would be for a controller part that is from another system so just checking the difference.

Any helpful advice is welcome.

Kind Regards

Hello,

It would be best to clear all the configuration details from the decommissioned controller before you insert it into the production system. However, if you do not the controller from the decommissioned system will still have the configuration changed to reflect the production system. The transition just goes smoother if there are no lingering configuration details that need to be modified upon insertion to the production system.

I would also suggest to do this during a period of low host IO. Once the new controller is inserted into the production system allow 30 minutes for the configuration details to sync and the firmware to balance. Once done be sure to verify you are running the latest firmware version. You can easily check firmware on the following site: https://h41111.www4.hpe.com/storage/msafirmware.html

For detailed instructions you can refer to the following guide: https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03793459&docLocale=en_US

Shawn

Differences between BK829A / BK829B

Hello,
Please explain the differences between two identical controllers:

  • BK829A HP MSA P2000 four ports 1Gb iSCSI Controller
  • BK829B HP MSA P2000 four ports 1Gb iSCSI Controller

Is it possible to use them in pairs in one chassis?

We tried to install B instead of the failed A (the second A was installed the same chassis), but we did not succeed. Because the controller did not fit into the chassis ...

Maybe we did something wrong, but it seemed that B really was not suitable for this chassis.

Explain, please.

Both looks same only.

https://partsurfer.hpe.com/ShowPhoto.aspx?partnumber=629074-001

https://partsurfer.hpe.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=BK829B

https://partsurfer.hpe.com/ShowPhoto.aspx?partnumber=629074-002

We can see BK829B is functional equivalent(FE) part of BK829A so it shouldn't be problem to use BK829B

Hope this helps!

Hello,

For a need to fix a vulnerability, I am looking for a command to disable the SSH server from supporting SSH1 clients.

I found on the internet a command "undo ssh server compatible-ssh1x"  but it concerns the switchs, is it the same thing for Disk Array "StorageWorks MSA" ?

Thank you in advance,

Thanks. Engineers of the data center still installed a new controller. Before that, something was wrong and the new controller BK829B did not fit. Then the firmware was updated on the old controller BK829A from new BK829B. Storage was not available at this monent. Now everything is working well.

HELP, Replacement P2000 G3 Smart Array messed up Firmware!

We have a P2000 G3 Smart Array controler (A) that errored after a power cut with (Degraded). The Network was dropping in and out.

We could still get in by Controller (B)  I restarted/reseated the controler (A) but got the same error so we shut down controller (A) and installed the Replacement Controller ,we'll call this (A2)

After 30 Min the new controler (A2) still showed as Degraded so we decided to put the origional controller (A) back in.

The Firmware started updating (B)! aparently the controller (A2) had a newer firmware. The update finished but now controller (B) show no details in the system overview now!

Controler (A)  still degraded but can see the Vdisks still.

Any ideas??? I'm worried a shutdown may make it worse as the VMs are still on and working,

Hello Mr.Walker,

This issue seems to require log analysis and in depth troubleshooting to avoid any issues ..

MSA controllers needs to follow a step by step fw upgrade path to ensure successful update.

TS230  > TS240 > TS250 > TS252 is the recommended upgrade path,

When you replace a controller, partner firmware update option would kick in and these steps would be skipped and the upgrade might fail..

You can run the commands in SSH CLI session to check whether both controllers are responding and to find out exact status.

Please log a chat support case with HPE support team at the following web link before proceeding further:
