I would not recommend going forward.
Issues I see:
1. The G2 product never supported drives over 2TB as a Storage System
-- So you are limited to 24TB RAW as the original storage system
-- The original storage system is LONG End of Support Life so you are on your own for support
2. MSAs run a proprietary 'OS' and replacing that with a standard Linux Distro has not been done
-- Using the existing controllers with a new OS would not be possible
3. The MSA enclosure midplane/backplane has specialized connectors so swapping the controllers with a standard motherboard would be very difficult.
-- Swapping the controller motherboard to a more industry standard would likely not be possible due to space and connection constraints
